Tahiti Trip-new grounding

There is something about learning more about your roots..

My Mothers Grandmother was a 19 year old Tahitian girl from a family of eight when she feel in love with a sailor (my great grandad) he swept her away to New Zealand, never to return to her home land. My Mother had a meaningful connection to her Grandmother and she played Tahitian music to me as a baby. We grew up looking at old Tahitian records and always finding balance and joy in the ocean.

About ten years ago my mother started her journey to reconnecting with her Tahitian family, this led her and my Dad to spend a large amount of time on her Grandmothers land in Bora Bora, and meeting so many of her long lost cousins. This year she took the kids, Dan and I with her.

Dan said It was like you found another leg. Going to Tahiti and meeting some of the people whom I’m related to was finding a piece of myself that I never knew I missed. I feel so wonderfully grounded and loved. Even parts of my physical appearance that I did not like I love now. I feel more loved, I feel love easier and as a result I am more at ease with myself.

We spent some time In Tahiti, staying where my parents stayed and adventured when they were 25, which is now my cousins home. We visited ancient Mareas, tropical gardens and waterfalls, I learnt about colonization in Tahiti and the impact that has had on my family and culture.

We went to Bora Boar and camped on Family Land, where other family live. We collected shells, swam, snorkeled, sat quietly, talked, learnt, laughed. I am definitely going back to Bora Bora!

We also went to Moorea where we stayed at Airbnb’s and relaxed as much as possible with three kids and my thirst for adventure.

I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to have visited this place and have connected with people who I vibe with so easily. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn more about myself, and the advantage that gives me going forward.

So if you were wondering about my trip that’s how I feel, Just so darn good.

The sea life in Bora Bora is like no other, I have been to the Galapagos, Middle east, great barrier, and a few island, the sea life in Bora Bora blew me away!. We would see sharks as we walked along the beach, turtles at our swimming spots, sting rays galore. Being descended from the land made seeing these creatures even more special.
